WHAT IS RDSO REGISTRATION?

RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organization) registration refers to the process of getting approved by the RDSO, which is a research and development organization under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. The RDSO is responsible for setting standards, designing, and ensuring the quality of equipment and services used by Indian Railways.

PROCESS

1. Preliminary Preparation

Research and Understanding: Before applying, the vendor should thoroughly understand the technical standards, guidelines, and requirements set by RDSO for the specific product or service they intend to supply.

Documentation: Ensure all necessary documents, certificates, and proofs regarding the company's legal status, technical capabilities, and quality management systems are ready.

2. Online Registration on RDSO Portal

Create an Account: Visit the RDSO Vendor Interface Application (VIA) portal and create an account for vendor registration. This is the first step for initiating the registration process.

Submit Basic Information: Provide basic information like company name, address, contact details, and nature of the business.

Select Product/Service Category: Choose the category of the product or service for which the registration is being sought.

3. Submission of Application

Online Application: Submit the application through the RDSO online portal, along with the required details about the product, company profile, and relevant documents.

Technical Specifications: Upload technical specifications, drawings, and certifications related to the product. Ensure the product complies with the specifications laid out by the RDSO for that particular category.

Fees Payment: Pay the required application fees online, as per the guidelines of RDSO.

4. Document Verification

Evaluation of Documents: After submitting the application, the RDSO officials will review the submitted documents to verify the authenticity and technical feasibility of the product.

Additional Queries: If any discrepancies or missing information are found, the vendor will be notified to submit the required corrections or additional documents.

5. Inspection of Manufacturing Facility

Site Visit: RDSO officials will schedule an inspection visit to the manufacturing facility to assess the production processes, quality control measures, infrastructure, and the capacity of the vendor.

Factory Compliance: The facility must comply with RDSO's guidelines regarding safety, quality, and capacity to produce the required quantities.

6. Prototype Development and Testing

Prototype Submission: Depending on the product, the vendor may be required to submit a prototype or sample for further testing.

Testing as per Standards: The submitted prototype will undergo rigorous testing at RDSO's testing labs or authorized facilities to ensure it meets the prescribed standards.

Trial Production and Field Trials: In some cases, the product may be subjected to field trials in actual railway conditions to evaluate its performance and durability.

7. Compliance with Quality Standards

Quality Management System (QMS): Vendors need to have a Quality Management System in place, such as ISO 9001 certification, to demonstrate their ability to consistently produce products that meet the required standards.

Compliance Check: RDSO will verify whether the manufacturing process follows the quality control protocols and quality assurance mechanisms.

8. Final Approval

Review by RDSO: After successful inspection and testing, the application and results are reviewed by the RDSO team.

Approval or Rejection: If all requirements are met, RDSO grants the registration approval. In case of deficiencies, feedback is provided, and the vendor can rectify and reapply.

Listing as Approved Vendor: Upon approval, the vendor’s name and product details are added to the RDSO’s approved vendor list, making them eligible to supply to Indian Railways.

9. Post-Approval Monitoring

Periodic Inspections: Even after approval, RDSO conducts periodic inspections to ensure continued compliance with quality standards.

Renewal and Revalidation: The registration is valid for a certain period, after which the vendor may need to apply for renewal or revalidation, depending on RDSO guidelines.

Technical Criteria

Product Specifications: The vendor’s product must conform to the specifications and standards set by RDSO. These specifications vary depending on the product category (e.g., signaling equipment, rolling stock, track components, etc.). 

Financial Criteria

Financial Stability: Vendors must prove their financial strength and ability to sustain the production and supply chain. This is typically assessed through financial documents such as:

 Balance sheets of the last three financial years.

·  Profit and loss statements to demonstrate profitability.

·  Turnover and net worth statements as per RDSO requirements for the specific product category.
