WHAT IS A STATE FSSAI
LICENSE?
FSSAI State License is required by all the Food Business
Operators (FBOs) which are having their units in more than one state.
Basically, they are large size businesses and are spread over various states or
nations like McDonald's, Subway, Domino's and so on
FSSAI LICENSE
FSSAI License is mandatory for businesses having a turnover of
more than 12 lakh or by the FBO engaged in food processing and manufacturing.
The FSSAI License is categorized into two types Central and State License.
FSSAI license carries 14 digits, wherein the first digit starts with 1. FBOs
need to get the state license or the central license depending on the size of
their business.
STATE LICENSE
A large-sized business processing, transporting, manufacturing,
and having international trade of food products needs to obtain the FSSAI
central license. The FBO having an annual turnover of more than Rs.20 crore is
considered a large business and must obtain an FSSAI central license from the
Central Government.

After 3 months from the date of cancellation under Regulation 2.1.8 (3), the Food Business Operator may make a fresh application for Registration or license to the concerned authority if all observations made in the improvement notice have been complied with.
What are the different categories of licenses?

I have a pulses/grains milling unit. What kind of license do I need to obtain ?
Pulses/Grains etc. milling unit comes under Manufacturing Kind of Business. These milling units are exclusively covered under the State License irrespective of their production capacity.
Are physical documents required to be submitted at Regional/State Offices for License after submitting online application?
No, there is no need to submit physical documents at Regional/ State offices for Central/ State license.
I am holding two FSSAI License, one State License and One Central for my food business unit. Is it correct to hold two licenses at a single premise?
FSSAI License is purely premised based. No FBO is allowed to possess more than one license for a single premise. Further, if the change in production capacity leads to change in criteria of License i.e. from State to Central, then FBO must apply for modification of existing State License to Central License category with modification fee [Rs. 1000/-] plus differential amount between State License fee and Central License fee.
