ISO 13565-1:1996 is an International Standard that defines a filtering method for measuring the surface texture of surfaces with stratified functional properties. These surfaces have a more finished plateau or layer on top of a deeper, more coarse "valley" or lower layer. The filtering method, described in this standard, helps to suppress the influence of the valleys on the reference line, resulting in a more accurate and meaningful representation of the surface's functional properties.
