ISO 6490-1:1985 is an international standard that specifies a titrimetric method for determining the calcium content in animal feeding stuffs. This method is applicable to products with calcium content greater than 1 g/kg. It involves ashing a portion of the sample, treating the ash with hydrochloric acid, precipitating the calcium as calcium oxalate, dissolving the precipitate in sulfuric acid, and then titrating the resulting oxalic acid with a standard potassium permanganate solution
