ISO 16303:2013 is an international standard that outlines a method for assessing the toxicity of fresh water sediments using the freshwater amphipod, Hyalella azteca. The standard specifies procedures for conducting 14-day and/or 28-day survival and growth tests on various types of freshwater sediments, including those contaminated with chemicals or industrial/municipal waste. The tests measure survival rates and growth inhibition of the amphipods as indicators of sediment toxicity.
