ISO 24651:2022 is an international standard that provides specific requirements for biobanking of human mesenchymal stromal cells (hBM-MSCs) derived from bone marrow, particularly for research purposes. It outlines procedures for collecting bone marrow, isolating and culturing hBM-MSCs, characterizing them, performing quality control, cryopreservation, storage, thawing, and disposal. The standard is not applicable to hBM-MSCs used for in vivo applications, cell therapy, clinical applications, tissue engineering, or therapeutic uses.
